The baby Dragon
“The Baby Dragon''
Crack, scratch, crack, wiggle, crash!
What happened? Said Mary to Katie in the tree house. “I hope our tree house isn’t about to fall!” Katie looked at Mary with uncertainty and
they both started to climb down just encase.
They rushed down to the bottom of the ladder hidden at the back of their
favourite tree with their tree hut snuggled right in the branches away from
noisy folk. They noticed an egg, well it
was the broken sections of the shell that once was an egg.
“Oh my gosh” stated Katie, “I wonder what was in there?”,
Mary agreed. What poor wee being could
have been left to fend for itself and all alone. They both stood silently for a bit then decided
to go on a quest; they couldn’t leave the poor wee thing out on its own. They decided to search the garden to start
with then the field and then they would have to ask mum but then the park and
the burn.
They started with the section they were in as they were not
sure if the creature would be able to walk very far. Mary and Katie were both a little scared,
they didn’t know how big the thing was or even what it was. The more they searched the more worried they
both got. Not just for the creature but
for themselves! What i it was a giant
duck (Katie disliked most birds after being chased by ducks when she was just
trying to feed them last year at the park, so she really disliked them, she was
only trying to be nice) Or it could be a
giant moth thought Mary, they always get into my bedroom at night just before I
go to sleep and I can hear them batting about but I can never catch them. “Ohh it could be a kitten or a puppy” stated
Katie, “Don’t be silly” said Mary with a giggle, they don’t come in an egg or a
shell.
“Well maybe it could
be a chicken!” decided Katie with a bit of hope. Katie was very fond of chickens, her granny
had some out on the island and she loved to play with them. Some of them even sat and let her gently
stroke them. “Oh I hope it’s a wee
chicken Mary” she said with a smile.
Mary hoped so too, her granddad used
to have some in the shed, her and her big sister used to try and play with them,
but they called them “pop-pop-hens” because they decided that was the noise
they make.
They carried on searching, they were almost finished
searching the entire garden when they heard another crack, “That sounded like a
branch cracking” stated Katie a bit scared.
“I think your right”, nodded Mary a little afraid herself. They took some smaller steps; they thought
they saw the gorse bush rustle. “Did
that bush just move?” asked Katie.
“Maybe it was the wind”, said Mary.
“That doesn’t seem possible, there was no wind today and we are almost
at the house so the wind never get here” said Katie with a tremble.
Just as they were beginning to get really afraid a little
dragon popped its head out of the bush.
“Ohh my” they both gasped as the little dragon looked up at them.
“Wow! What should we
do? What can it eat? Asked Mary to Katie but there was no need, along came big mama
dragon to take little dragon home.
Whoa” they both stated again, how cool was that? Mary to Katie both thought. , I hope the little dragon was alright if
when it fell into our garden.” Stated Mary hopefully, with that they both
turned and headed into the house to tell Mary’s mum the story of the lost
little dragon they had just rescued.
