Flying

It was here, today was the day.

Mary and Joe were going on their first holiday with mum and dad to a sunny place.

Mum and dad had been very excited for a very long time; they couldn’t stop telling all their friends about it.

Mum had checked everyone’s bags at least three times before she was sure everyone had everything they would or could ever need.

And we all were off.

The airport was very busy lots and lots of people everywhere.

Dad handed over their booking papers and they gave the lady our heavy cases.

After a nod from the very smiley lady they were all allowed to go through to a new area that was filed with shops and restaurants.

Mum made sure Mary held onto Joe’s pushchair or dads hand so she wouldn’t get lost.

Some were sitting reading others were doing some shopping and a few others were running.

Dad picked up a paper and mum picked a packet of sweets.

Now they were ready to make it through to security, all belts and shoes off.  Mum took off her fancy jewellery too.

They had to go through a fancy arch one at a time.  They were all fine no beeps or lights for them.

Mary was fascinated by the process, Joe not so much.

“Flight 6150 to Spain mow boarding” yelled the tannoy.

“That’s us” beamed mum as they all headed to the correct corridor.

As they reached the end Mary noticed the doorway was actually the door of the plane they were about to fly in.

They found their seats mum by the window Mary and Joe in the middle with Dad on the end.

Wow this was exiting, Mum handed Mary a sweet and advised to suck on it during takeoff if her ears began to hurt.

Everyone was on board, the ladies in uniform had finished all of their checks the pilot announced his name and the destination, then they were off.

The plane sounded like a rocket.

Plane Sunset

Mary couldn’t stop looking out of the window, the cars and houses were getting smaller and smaller, even the farms and roads were shrinking.  Then it was all clouds.

All too soon the ladies were checking everything again so they could begin to come back down to land.

Again Mary was glued to the window watching the clouds separate.

Then they were over the sea.

Now they were going over the island, Mary could spot fields and buildings again.

Mum handed over another sweet to stop any pain in Mary’s ears.

Now they were getting very close, houses, gardens, cars and roads were all coming back into view.

Bump, bump all too soon they had landed in a new place with sun and lots of sand from what Mary could see so far, hopefully the beach wasn’t too far away.

“We made it!  Lets find our bags and our hotel, then the holiday really begins” exclaimed mum with excitement.

The rainbow pirateship

Today Mary was a pirate, teddy bear was the first mate and doll was lookout.

They were sailing the sea on a beautiful sunny day making sure everyone was behaving and enjoying the lovely weather.

Mary had an idea.

Captain Mary thought the ship should be painted in bright colours, so even when it wasn’t sunny any longer the ship was happy and bright.

“Listen up shipmates”, announced Mary.  “We’re going to paint each cabin on this ship a different color like a rainbow, to keep us all happy even when the weather is not so nice.”

“First we need to clean the decks and get all of the dishes from breakfast done so all the surfaces and walls are clear.”

All of the crew got to work.

The cleaning was hard work but it was finished a lot quicker with everyone helping, soon enough they were ready to paint the ship.

First mate took to the sides of the ship; Dolly was painting from the top of the masts.

The painting took hardly any time to dry on this lovely sunny day.

Everyone worked all day, they were soon done.

The ship was ready.  It was lovely and bright thought captain Mary.

The kitchen was a lovely calm light blue, the dining room was orange, the deck was yellow and the captain’s quarters had been transformed with purple.

“Oh No, the sails, we need some new sail’s!”  Exclaimed Captain Mary and with that the crew all started to search for some material to make some new sails.

Teddy found an old pair of curtains while dolly found some old bed sheets.

They took all the material to the captain.

“That’s perfect,” announced Captain Mary.

Mary asked mum if she could help and sew some new sail’s for the ship.

Mum quickly got to work making beautiful patchwork sail’s.

“Wow, that’s brilliant crew, I hope you like our new rainbow ship,” announced Captain Mary.

Rainbow

“I think all you hungry sailors could use some lunch, “advised mum.

“Yes please,” commanded Captain Mary with a smile as she took teddy and dolly down to the kitchen to enjoy some well earned pirate lunch.

“Maybe after lunch you could draw a picture of your new rainbow pirate ship to hang in the captain’s quarters,” suggested mum.

“That sounds like a great idea” agreed Captain Mary.

Captain Mary drew all afternoon.

The picture was finished; Captain Mary took it to teddy and dolly so they could have the first look.

Mary thought they both liked it too.

Next she took it to show mum.

“Oh my goodness that’s a fantastic picture, how about we hang it up on your bedroom wall so even when it’s not sunny outside your rainbow pirate ship will always be nice and bright.”

“I like the sound of that idea” advised Mary with a giant smile.

That night captain Mary went to sleep thinking of all the new adventures she could get up to on the bright new pirate ship.
