Fireworks

BANG! Zip! BUZZ! POP!

WOW exclaimed Mary as she watched them from the window.

“Would you like to go down to the event in the village?” asked Mum and Dad.

“We’ll all put on lots of layers hats gloves and scarf’s so we don’t get cold,” advised Mum.

Mary wasn’t sure but put on her thick woolly jumper, wellie boots, winter jacket with a hood, gloves, scarf and hat.

Everyone at the village square seemed to have the same idea, all wrapped up in jumpers hats and scarf’s.

Lots of people gathered round the bonfire waiting for the show.

“Would you like a sparkler Mary?”  Asked Dad.

“No I’m OK thank you.”

“Are you OK Mary?”  Asked a slightly concerned Mum.

“Yes I’m fine advised Mary hiding behind Dad.

“Really?”

“We were shown a video in school about how we shouldn’t touch and how dangerous the sparklers and fireworks are, it showed what could happen if you didn’t follow the instructions, so I don’t want to touch.”  Confessed an upset Mary.

“Don’t be worried Mary, now you know what could happen if people do not use them properly or try to be silly with them.  You wouldn’t be silly with flames or sparklers and you wouldn’t get too close to the fire either would you?”  Questioned Mum.

“No.”

“Well then, you also have me and Dad to keep a watch over you and Joe too.”

“Now  would you like a sparkler if I hold it too?” offered Dad.

“Yes please,” whispered Mary.

Dad lit a sparkler and got Mary to hold on to it before wrapping his hand over hers just to make sure no sparks could get to her gloves.

“Lets make your name,” suggested Dad as he moved the sparkler up, down diagonal, up and down again, then round up and across, followed by another up then round and down and finished with a loop.

Cool exclaimed Mary, can we spell out Joe’s now?

“We can, but we’ll need another sparkler,” smiled Dad as he put the finished one in the bucket of water.

It was almost time for the fireworks.  Everyone got into place.

Mary asked if she could go up on Dads shoulders so she could get a proper look.

Now all they had to do was wait . . .

WEEEWEEEE! FIZZ! POP! The first firework went off and exploded in bursts of yellow and orange.

BANG! BANG! BANG! Let out another one that let out wee pops of blue.

Fizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! Went off one that spun in place letting out a trail of rainbow sparks.

Fireworks

This was the big one.  The flames were lit and they all took a step back.

Silence then, SHREEK! WOOSH! BANG!  It looked like a huge purple splatter had taken over the sky, and another then another.

WOW, the fireworks were over it had been a beautiful show but everyone was frozen.

“How does hot chocolate sound?”  Offered Mum.

“Fantastic,” replied Dad coupled with smiles from Mary and Joe.
