Grand adventure
“Lets go on an adventure mum.” Bellowed Mary as she walked
into the kitchen.
“OK, where should we start? Requested Mum.
“Well, it would start here of course; we need supplies, and
the right clothes and shoes.”
“Oh, this is going to be a big, big adventure, will we need
food too?”
“Oh yes, we’ll need waterproofs, wellie boots just to be
safe. And a bag and we’ll definitely need
snacks, confirmed Mary.
“Right, we can pack some snacks in a backpack, we’ll get
dressed as advised. Can Joe come too?”
“Excellent, yes Joe can come too and look after the snacks.”
So they all went into their rooms to get ready, and back
into the hallway to get their wellies and jackets on.
“Are we all ready?” Offered
Mum.
“Yea let’s go.”
Out of the door and into the garden they came across their
first challenge, a flock of ducks were passing overhead and Mum wanted a photo
or few so they stood still for a bit till they passed.
Another step was taken and more challenges to face, a stray
cat and the next door neighbor's cat were prowling looking for a fight. “no need to get the claws out,” advised mum
as she between them. “Felix go home” she advised the neighbor's cat and the
stray disappeared before mum had turned back around.
“My goodness so much chaos and we have not even left the
garden” exclaimed Mum.
“This will be a brilliant adventure,” hoped Mary.
They left the garden and headed to the woods, today was not
a beach or river day, toady was all about the trees.
So many gorse bushes with their spiked branches, foxgloves
with their pretty purple flowers hiding the bumble bee’s inside trying to take
their pollen. Ferns, long grass and
weeds hiding all sorts of insects, we animals.
“Look what I found!” cried Mary.
“Oh my goodness Mary what have you found? Asked Mum.
“I don’t know but it lovely and shiny, have a look.”
“Aahh you have found a bit of rose quartz, its a lovely bit
of rock and has a very special meaning for many people,” advised Mum.
“Waoh, if we find more will we be rich?”
“Its very precious for lots of reasons but it would not make
us rich very quickly, lots of work would be needed over a very long time.”
“Aaww”, huffed Mary disappointed.
“Are you not enjoying your adventure, or the lovely walk we’re
on, or the beautiful things you have seen and found?”
“Yea but I though there would be bigger better things.”
“Not everything needs to be big or grand, sometimes the
smallest thing can mean the most. You
can’t touch a memory; there is always room for new experiences.”
“Oh is that what these are, can we change the word from
adventure to experience?”
“Of course we can.”
“I like that better,” confessed Mary with a smile.
“How about we have a snack and head home, the sky looks like
its thinking about raining soon.”
“Sounds perfect to me,” agreed Mary.
