Road trip

Mum thought it would be a good idea to go on a wee adventure somewhere they had never been before.

It was a beautiful day, even if the weather changed it wouldn’t matter as they would be in the car and the scenery would still be beautiful.

Everyone got packed up and sitting comfortably in the car.

“Here we go, let’s find out what new exiting things we can discover on this road trip” voiced mum thinking out loud.

Everyone sat with their sunglasses on bopping to the music on the car radio.

Joe wasn’t bothered by the sun as he had a lovely window cover that already had the sun in pride of place, even on a rainy dull day he could see the happy colorful image on his window to brighten his day.

But today everyone could see the bright glorious day unfolding in front of them.  Soon they were out of the village, and even sooner out of the town now the trip really began.

The road became a lot narrower in places with a lot more bends.  Mary thought it felt like they were all on a crazy roller-coaster bending in and out trying not to fall off.

The sky was filled with bright blue and the odd cloud to guard against the glare of the sun.

Mum spotted waterfall after waterfall.  There were bridges over streams and bigger ones over rivers.

The coastline looked tempting but there was a very big cliff in the way.

They got further and further away from home.  The road was far tighter with bigger dips and even taller hills.

Mary didn’t feel so good.

She was just about to speak up but dad pulled over so mum could take a few photos and he could stretch his legs for a bit.

Mary though she might stretch her legs too it might help the horrible feeling in her tummy.

“Try these Mary,” offered mum, handing over 2 bands with a big plastic bump in them.

“What do I do with these?  Asked a very confused Mary, how will bracelets help?

“Wear them like this,” advised mum as she placed them on Mary’s wrists with the bumps turned in to her wrist.

“Erm, OK,” replied Mary she still didn’t see how it would help but they all got back in the car ready to take off back on the road again.

Wow where ever we are going really is far, far away, it seemed like they were driving forever, less and less houses, but the landscape is beautiful.

“Oh look, look, we’re here, yelled mum with excitement.

They were at the coast at what seemed like the edge of the world.

WOW it was beautiful, waterfalls, cliffs’, beaches, shells and sand so much sand.

Lots of local cafes, bars and gift shops too. Mary gasped not just at the beautiful surroundings but she didn’t feel sick anymore, those bands really were magic.

First, some food and juice then the beach exploration begin.

Another day at the beach but this was a new beach with lots of new things to discover whispered mum as they all headed off to explore.

Clothes shopping

Mary disliked shopping very much but today it was not about her as today.
Granny, mum and Mary were going into town to find mum an outfit for a wedding while dad and Joe stayed home to play in the garden.

Mary was a bit jealous she liked playing in the garden with dad, but granny always had lots of stories and couldn’t go far without a treat, so town it was.

The bus dropped them off just outside the town center shopping center.  It was a huge building, and felt even bigger once inside.

There were shops everywhere.  Shoe shops, jewellery shops, clothes shops, big shops, small shops  and of course there were the massive shops that combined everything into the one place.

Granny thought it would be useful if we did them all in order so we would know where we had been.

Mum saw a really lovely dress in the first shop we went in but didn’t try it on and left in no time moving on to the next shop.  No reason she just wasn’t in the shopping spirit yet.

It took a few more shops before mum started to pick up items to see how they felt or if she liked how they looked against her skin tone.

It was time, they were all off to the changing room.

Mum tried the first dress, a big circle of fabric with a crazy pattern with short sleeves.

“What do you think?” asked mum with a flat look on her face.

“Erm, no” advised granny, Mary just shook her head too.Clothes shopping

“This could be a long day,” huffed mum.

Mum tried on everything in that shop but nothing felt right so they moved on to the next then the next and the next.

The huge shop had a helper service.  They picked out all of the items they thought would work, but mum still didn’t seem to be satisfied with the choices given.

All of the items were good in their own way but mum always had a reason not to buy them.  That is too big, this is too tight, the color washes me out and many more.

Everyone was getting tired now until granny had a fantastic idea.

“Why don’t we try the dress in the first shop we were in? It’s right beside the cafe too so we can all get a rest?”

“Sounds like a possibility,” grumbled tired mum.

Quick march all the way back to the first shop, and a mad dash to find the item.

Granny frantically checked if they had the right size for mum.

Yes they did it was the last one, mum rushed to try it on this time.

It felt like it took mum forever to try it on, but it was worth the wait, it was beautiful on her.

Everyone loved it, nods from Mary, granny and smiles with applause from the staff too.

“Looks like I better get this one,” smiled mum as she checked in the mirror.

Outfit purchased, all set for the wedding, it was definitely time to celebrate with a wee treat from the cafe next door, granny and Mary couldn’t agree more.
